Acqui Terme and its natural hot springs, a vacation in the pursuit of well-being

Today, all our daily lives are characterized by stress and constant rushing. Every once in a while we need some relaxation. That’s why hot springs vacations in the Piedmont, in Acqui Terme, are always a perfect choice.

The hot springs in Acqui Terme have been in use since Roman times. In Fact, you can visit the remains of an ancient Roman aqueduct in the city, which are among the best conserved structures of their type in northern Italy.

Furthermore, there are the remains of the Roman pool and ancient thermal bath system of the same era.

The City is effectively built on natural hot springs from which flows water with notable beneficial and curative properties.

Water from the hot springs in Acqui Terme is naturally rich in salt, bromine and iodine, and the most incredible part is that the water flowing out of the various springs here is in fact rain water from about 2,000 years ago.  The temperature difference between the different springs as the water flows out at surface level is due to the natural path that it has created for itself over time to resurface, in many different spots around the area.

There are three main hot springs in Acqui Terme :

  • The “bollente” hot spring: the water that gushes from this spring is mainly used in the adjacent clinic. The water’s properties are mostly linked to its temperature when it breaks the surface (75°C) and its notable mineral content.
  • “Sorgente del Lago” Hot Spring:  This spring is comprised of numerous, small springs whose water collects in one, larger basin. Despite the water not being as hot as the water at the “bollente” hot spring (50°C), its uses are numerous, both in therapeutic and dermatological settings.  “Acqua marcia” Hot Spring: This is the most recently discovered spring, and its water is not characterized by particularly high temperatures, but rather by its peculiar mineral content, rich in sulfur. Unfortunately, given the scarce flow rate, this spring cannot be consistently used for therapeutic purposes.
